Maybe your small business is growing like crazy. You have networked, made business contacts, advertised, and now you are seeing growth like never before. Maby digital marketing has been an afterthought.
Or, you are a brand new startup looking to scale your sensational business idea.
Everyone has told you that you need to put your business online, create a website, get on social media, and grow your online presence. That can seem overwhelming. There is so much to know and understand.
Hey, No problem here are a couple of things to consider to help you through the process and make digital marketing work for you.
1. MAKE SURE YOUR DIGITAL MARKETING GOALS ALIGN WITH YOUR BUSINESS GOALS
As a business owner, you have goals in mind. The first thing that you need to do is make sure that your digital marketing goals align with your business goals.
For example, you may have set the goal to increase revenue by 20%. Ask yourself “How can my digital marketing plan help me achieve my goal and increase revenue by 20%.
It seems so simple.
But the reality is with so many different digital marketing strategies, some business owners lose sight of the overall goal.
If you decide to take an aggressive social media strategy, make sure that it will help you achieve your overall goal.
2. KNOW YOUR KPI’S
What are KPI’s?
KPI stands for key performance indicators
Simply put, key performance indicators are measurable values that demonstrate how effectively a company is achieving key business objectives.
Chances are, you already know what your key performance indicators are. You just need to put them in the context of digital marketing.
Let’s say you run a Facebook campaign and your business goal is to increase your client book. To increase your client book you need leads. So total leads are the KPI’s used to measure the effectiveness of the campaign.
These KPI’s are different based on the objective of the business.
3. MEASURE DATA (ANALYTICS ARE YOUR FRIEND)
One of the best things about internet marketing is that you can see a lot of data that you can’t see in traditional marketing.
You can see how many potential buyers visited your website, how they found you, the pages they visited, who made a purchase and they engaged your content.
The most important thing is that you correctly measure what you want to track.
Once you have determined your KPI’s, you can use the analytics to view your progress.
One thing that I do for my clients is to create a dashboard that shows data in real time.
It can also show performance areas that need to be addressed.
4. MAKE SURE YOUR DIGITAL MARKETING STRATEGY MAKES SENCE
Digital marketing isn’t always exact. However, you can always make sure that your campaigns make sense.
Know the differences between the social media websites and ad networks.
Go where your customers are.
Constantly ask yourself, “is this the best use of my time and advertising dollars?” If it isn’t, Change your strategy.
5. BE PATIENT AND TRUST YOUR DATA
Look, you’re not going to always get the results that you want.
That is always going to be part of marketing. You will run tests and experiments.
The one thing that effective digital marketing provides is reliance on data. Trust the data and adjust accordingly.
